Citizen Xelerator Jewelry workshop

On March 8, 2024, as part of the Citizens Xelerator project and on the occasion of Women’s Day, a jewelry workshop was held by women for women.

In the workshop, 14 people participated, the largest percentage were women with an immigrant profile who participate in many of ActionAid’s Athens Community Center programs. The choice of the theme arose from the request of the participants themselves who had followed a similar workshop in the past, but also because it has a more festive character and they could not only make but also take with them the jewelry they created.

During the two hours workshop, the extremely cooperative women succeeded and made macrame rings, earrings and even necklaces, as they had the opportunity to learn to create macrame technique even by themselves. The participants showed great enthusiasm, deciding some to keep and others to donate their creations.

Since most of the women’s main occupation is housekeeping, they enjoyed the opportunity to participate in something purely recreational, while at the same time they had the chance to keep the jewelry they created as a memento.

Finally, all together wearing their creations were photographed, capturing what they obtained from the specific workshop. It is very important that for some women it was an occasion to get to know and an opportunity to continue working with jewelry making, so they expressed the desire to look for similar workshops.
