Addressing community problems – Athens

The students of the English department of ActionAid Hellas Community Centre in Athens, decided to take action to address problems affecting their community.

Through 20-minute meetings, they designed and implemented the action “Recording the Barriers: Raising Awareness for Access to Our Community’s Sidewalks.” Through the creation of collages but also with the help of digital material, they discussed the daily problems they face in their community due to the poor maintenance of sidewalks.

Gathering all the necessary information, they wrote a letter of complaint which they sent to the relevant department of the Municipality of Athens. At the end of the action, they expressed their desire to coordinate more actions like that, with the aim of improving accessibility and implementing new practices that will facilitate the access of all citizens to the sidewalks.
